Mission, Purpose, & Vision

Career & Technical Education, or CTE, redefines traditional learning. With an emphasis on real-world, real-life skills, CTE connects learning to career readiness & workforce knowledge & skills. It's rigorous, It's relevant, & it is innovative.

At Temple ISD, we refer to our CTE program as the Wildcat Workforce program. Why? Because we're preparing our Wildcats for workforce.

What is CTE at Temple ISD

Throughout program coherent sequence courses, we introduce workplace competencies and make academic content more relevant to students by relating it to practical learning in a hands-on context. Wildcat Workforce learners are provided opportunities to learn academic and technical skills, knowledge and training necessary to succeed in future careers and to become lifelong learners.

Within the framework of Wildcat Workforce programs, career specialties are grouped into Career Clusters. Each of these clusters is identified by a common set of knowledge and skills that prepares learners for a range of workforce opportunities.

Additional specialization is achieved through comprehensive programs of study aligning academic and technical content in a coordinated, non-duplicative sequence of secondary and post-secondary courses, often leading to an industry-recognized license or certification, or an associate or baccalaureate degree at the post-secondary level.

Foundation To Wildcat Workforce Programs

  • Rigorous academic skills and the ability to apply those skills to concrete situations in order to function in the workplace and in daily routine activities

  • Relevant employability skills such as critical thinking and personal responsibility – common skills necessary to succeed in any career area

  • Job specific, technical skills related to specific career pathways

Mission

To prepare students for workforce readiness and lifelong learning by providing real-world business and industry experiences as well as exposing students to post-secondary education opportunities as a part of their high school experience.

Purpose

To promote post-secondary readiness – to inspire, to engage and to prepare.

Vision & Guiding Principles

To inspire, engage and prepare students to succeed in the constantly changing workforce.

The Wildcat Workforce vision is defined by five guiding principles. Collectively, they serve as guideposts for Wildcat Workforce leaders and partners to set priorities and make decisions affecting Wildcat Workforce programs, policies and priorities—and to chart a new course for CTE in the 21st century.

  • Principle 1: CTE is critical to ensure local, regional, state, national, & global competitiveness for TISD students.

  • Principle 2: CTE actively partners with employers to design and provide high-quality, dynamic programs.

  • Principle 3: CTE prepares students to succeed in post-secondary education and careers.

  • Principle 4: CTE delivers comprehensive courses incorporating academic rigor as well as technical and employability skills.

  • Principle 5: CTE is a results-driven system that links to greater earnings, improved employability, and positive cost-benefit ratio.
